Jan Smart

Jan's dedication to the health and wellness of companion animals led her to a career in massage therapy for canines.   Jan is a Certified Canine Myotherapist and Reiki Master who incorporates Western and Eastern massage techniques and passive stretching into her sessions.  She offers therapeutic essential oils in conjunction with massage treatments and for purchase for home use. 

Jan provides canine massage services through her practice, Smart Touch Canine.  In addition, Jan conducts workshops on canine massage for owners and has made presentations to a variety of canine groups. 

Jan recieved her Certificate in Canine Myotherapy under the direction of Sue Olmos, CTPM, MEd, Midstates Myotheraphy, Inc. and she is trained in canine massage through the PetMassage Institute. Her advanced training and expertise include Reiki, Small Animal Acupressure & Traditional Chinese Medicine, Healing Touch for Animals, and Tellington Touch.  Additional areas of study include the use of Essential Oils for animals, sports massage, senior care, nutrition, behavior and training.  She is a member of IAAMB (International Association of Animal Massage and Bodywork) and ABMP (Associated Bodywork and Massage Professionals).

Jan has been actively involved in greyhound rescue and adoption since 1997. She has fostered over 50 greyhounds and specializes in working with shy and fearful dogs. Through her volunteer work with local adoption groups she has provided behavior and training support to new adopters and functioned as adoption representative for the placement of greyhounds with new families.

As co-founder and board member of The Greyhound Alliance adoption and rescue group, Jan organized educational seminars on topics such as wellness, nutrition, behavior and training for greyhound families and new adopters.  Jan authored and conducted an educational safety seminar “Greyhounds and Children” from 2003-2010.
